I had a great time this weekend at the Bay Area Book Festival in Berkeley, California. Not only did I exceed my goal for selling books, I met a bunch of amazing new readers and a few fans who purchased signed copies of books 2 and 3 after buying my first book at last year's event.  In truth, we authors are lucky if we break even at these events. However, it isn't about making money, it's about connecting with readers and hopefully earning a few fans.
